Services Tailored to fit everyone’S needs

Individualized Care

At Dove Hospice, we work with patients and families to create a plan of care to meet their needs, and we adapt the plan as needs change.

A registered nurse visits regularly, coordinates care and stays in communication with the patient’s own doctor. Our nurses have extensive training and specialize in caring for people with life-limiting illnesses. Our medical directors oversee our staff, consult with the patient’s doctor and can make home visits if needed. Medical directors can become the primary doctor for those patients who do not have their own physician.

Other team members visit as needed and desired. Most patients and families choose to receive care from several team members, including social workers, home health aides, spiritual care counselors and volunteers.

Nursing

Registered nurses visit the patient as often as needed, assessing physical needs and providing overall care management. Our nurses offer education to family members about the disease process and provide expert pain and symptom control. A nurse is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Nursing assistants give patients professional personal care and attention. Some of their services include bathing, grooming, changing bed linens and other light household tasks.

Pain Management

Effective pain management for terminally ill patients requires a profound understanding of various pain control methods. At Dove Hospice, our team utilizes the most up-to-date medications and technologies available for pain relief, including some alternative strategies. Through the ongoing efforts of our team, the pain and suffering of our patients is eased, allowing them and their families to enjoy a better quality of life.

Bereavement

We offer full bereavement services to those who have lost a loved one, including to children, parents, spouses and siblings. We provide the support required to effectively cope with the loss of a loved one through a variety of means, such as letters, cards and telephone calls. If needed, the hospice team can also refer family members and friends to other medical or professional care, including grief therapy.

Our goal is to use our comprehensive services to help individuals as they grieve and accept the loss of their loved one. Dove Hospice provides continuous support, especially during such significant times, such as birthdays or anniversaries. This service continues for 13 months after the death of a loved one, but it can be discontinued at any time.

Spiritual Care

Dove Hospice chaplains leave their own faith practices at the doors of patients’ rooms so they can better meet our patients’ spiritual needs. Sometimes patients want prayer to nurture their spirits, and sometimes they want a chocolate chip cookie and a companion to hold their hand.

Our chaplains believe the spirit is nurtured in many ways, including religion, music, art, life review and simply by compassionate presence. During patient meetings, our chaplains collaborate with their team of social workers, nurses and volunteer coordinators to create highly individualized plans of care that are designed to meet the specific needs of our patients and families.

Social Services

At Dove Hospice, we provide a full spectrum of social and counseling services to our patients and their families. When dealing with a life-limiting illness, patients and families are faced with numerous challenges and need to make difficult decisions. Our social workers can provide the information and resources needed to make informed decisions, partner with the Spiritual Care team to provide bereavement services or to simply act as an advocate for the needs and rights of the patient and their family.
